SO, my cousin's husband, Tristan, had a birthday in November. So the kids and I call to sing him happy birthday and he was hit with a FABULOUS idea as what to get her for Christmas. He said "what do you think about Beth and Aiden coming to visit as her Christmas gift?" I felt a little silly because really it was a gift for me and she didn't get a choice. So he surprised her with tickets and she came at the beginning of the month. WE had a blast. I hope she and Aiden did too. Here are a few pictures of our time together.

The boys had a great time playing baseball outside and digging in the dirt. Abby join the digging part and almost was hit with the bat a time or two. We had wonderful weather while they were here.

P.S. Beth, if you are reading this... I really love you. I cherish the time we have to talk or text or email. I love that we can communicate with our eyes. I enjoy watching you as a mom and find it equally as wonderful to watch you as a wife. Growing up I didn't have any expectations but if I did subconsciously you have surpassed them all. You are amazing. I hope that we can see each other soon.

Garbage Men Appreciation Day

I don't know if there is such a day that actually exists, however, we made up our own day. From the time Bobby was really little we have watched the garbage trucks come and go every week. If we are not home he is concerned that he will miss them. He enjoys them so much that when he was younger and learning more sign language than he is now he made up his own sign for garbage truck. If you haven't had the pleasure, soon you will be asked by Bobby what day does your garbage man come, and without fail he will remember and ask me 10 times if we can call and remind you to put out your cans? Abby and Tommy now enjoy them just as much. I thought that these workers go all year without knowing how much our kids look forward to them coming and are truly sad when they miss them. So, we made cookies and filled them in fun containers and waited patiently to pass them out. Our Garbage men were troopers, one got out of his truck and thanked the kids, one other couldn't believe it was actually for him, and the last one just said thanks.

Feeling a little guilty. Thinking that when I do print this blog into a book my children will want to see some of the things we did for Thanksgiving.

The kids and me made a thankful tree for our neighbors next door, the Goldberg's. They are awesome and our kids really like them.

We also made rolls to take to Grandpa and Grandma's. Although we were going to work with Daddy we still spent some time there and then heading off for dinner.

Gardening, Jones Style

First, we chose a few different fruits, vegetables and herbs that we like to cook with. Second, we bought seeds, seedlings and some gardening soil to blend with our dirt. Third, as a family weeded, dug holes, planted seeds, watered and waited. And waited and watered and waited and watered and waited. Until one day, we saw the ground making room for our garden varieties. We continued to weed and watch patiently as the 'fruits' of our labors were blooming. We planted cucumbers, basil, cilantro, serrano peppers, tomatoes, cantaloupe, green onions, carrots and garlic. The cilantro drowned after the first storm. We only grew a couple of cucumbers and they were 'picked' before they were ready. Abby is really excited about our garden. She also saw a cantaloupe on the vine, I told her that she could show it to Daddy. I went to call for Sherman and when he came out to see it, she was coming in with the VINE IN HAND!! It was really cute. Needless to say, we did end up with two excellent cantaloupes and there is still one growing. W ended up with one carrot. Wait for the picture!! The basil and peppers have done the best and we have been enjoying them. We still have tomatoes on the vine that are waiting for more heat. For the ones we have picked, they have been excellent. Fortunately for me, I am the only one that likes tomatoes so I can just eat them like an apple!! Here are a few pictures:

As most kids (other than my younger brother, Jesse) do, my kids love to play in the mud. They add water to make it more fun and on occasion Abby reminds Bobby that she thinks she boss (the last picture is the result of Abby throwing a shovel full of mud at her older and non retaliating brother).

Here is my handsome husband on his birthday. He had a busy day but he said it was fun. I know it's safe for me to write a few things about him. I'm the one who updates the blog and lets him know that I have done so! Here is to my husband, my eternal companion, whom I love with all my heart. He is just right for me. He works hard, long hours for our family and trusts me to do the same at home. He is an amazing husband but more so an amazing daddy. He races home to wrestle, play basketball, golf, read books and to help feed "babies". Happy Birthday, Sherman.

Butterfly!

We were at the park a few weeks ago and Sherman walked by this butterfly on the ground. He watched it for a second or two and it didn't move. Sherman thought it had just released himself from his cocoon. He bent down and picked it up and this beautiful butterfly waited patiently on Sherman's finger. The kids were intrigued but not as much as I was. I loved to watch Sherman looking at this butterfly. He eventually set it back down and maybe 20 - 30 minutes later did it actually flutter away.

Abby turned two recently. Here are a few pictures that were captured of her special day. We started her party out by meeting at the park, however, she slept through that part and woke up in time to play here at home and eat dinner. She LOVED that everyone was singing to her. She loved her cake and asked for more.

Our little man, who is not so little, turned 4. He was all smiles.

Wonderful weekend with Nana

We had a special weekend with my mom. She drove down here all by herself and stayed for 3 days. That is a lot for my mom and we sure enjoyed her company.

Earlier in the day Sherman and Bobby were changing the oil in his car. The kids found the latex gloves and my mom made hand balloons for them.

On the second day my mom was here, Abby just wasn't herself. Loss of appetite, not really drinking to much and kind of clingy. Needless to say she caught hold of the flu, high fevers and crankiness too. Soon after, Bobby joined in and the following week my mom did too (bronchial pneumonia and the flu). It lasted 8-10 days and the cough is still going strong. The picture below is taken after my mom left, you can just see it in Abby's eyes. Sherman is actually asleep in this picture. **By the way, Sherman and I both avoided this flu!!!

I just love this picture of Abby. She really loves to cook and loves to eat also. I really enjoy my kids in the kitchen with me. There are times of course when I would prefer it just to be me. They get out every utensil, measuring cup and spoon along with a variety of other items. It is fun to listen to them use their imagination and then also interesting when they mimic what you make for dinner. Makes me think I need to re-do my menu!

Bobby, Abby and I really enjoy baking. We baked this lovely apple pie for friends of ours. I personally think it looks cute.

Here are some pictures of how we spent the last few weeks or so of 2010. We really enjoyed 2010 and are happily awaiting each new adventure that 2011 will bring.

Here is our snowman! Bobby had fun searching for sticks for his arms. He even asked Grandpa if he would be willing to stay inside the next day so we could use his hat for the snowman. Adorable.

We spent the week at the cabin with Grandpa and Grandma. Daddy came up to play and we all headed out the next day so we wouldn't get snowed in.

This morning while typing out our annual Christmas letter (yes, I know it's the 13th) Bobby and Abby were writing their letters to Santa. Bobby signed his name and put his in the envelope all by himself. I was asking him what he asked for Christmas and he said, "I would like a garbage truck with garbage cans and Daddy as the garbage man." I then turned my focus to Abby and asked the same question to which she replied, "DADDY!" Precious, I know.

This is one of the projects the kids and I made for Thanksgiving, a turkey hat. I also made a bushel of wheat bread loaf. This is before I baked it. It was very pretty on the table at my in - laws. I also made a cornucopia for actual Thanksgiving. It's in the lower right hand of the picture above. I had so much fun preparing and setting everything.

You may be wondering why I haven't posted? Maybe you were wondering... I LOST our camera! It has been very sad for me. I just don't loose things. I am very responsible. That is until December, I lost my car keys - which I have never done ever and still I can't find them. I think they are in Oakland or Berkeley. I really enjoy taking pictures and especially pictures of my kids. I will remind you I said taking pictures not printing, emailing or hanging - just taking. This is one area in my life I would like to do better. That's all I have till I find a new camera that I like, love, can use and will use.

Every year after Christmas we try and go to the cabin for some snow, games and lots of food. We try and schedule nothing else so we can see all the family and make sure to see some snow. Well, we did see lots of snow but not all of the family while we were there. We had a blast and we are already looking forward to this year.

For many years now my husband and his family have always traveled to a tree farm in the Santa Cruz Mountains to find THE perfect tree, to chop it down and bring home to decorate. They still do this and we will be continuing this tradition with our kids too. Every year its different it could be raining, windy or the sun can be shining brightly! For sure we will all find THE tree, have a wonderful after Thanksgiving lunch and then head home to put up THE tree and decorate.

I miss his laugh. I miss him slurping coffee and soup ridiculously loud. I miss that stupid van he drove. If you were the last one to the van you were lucky enough to sit on a 5 gallon bucket. If you were out way too late Dad would make you drive because he was mysteriously tired (right James). He always stopped to buy us some sort of breakfast on the way, Jack N the Box, McDonalds or even AMPM. He loved to play tennis and was very athletic. All those who knew dad appreciated him, love him and miss him. My dad always said he would make it to Heaven because of his beautiful wife. I believe him.

The young man running the backhoe said that Bobby was a reminder of how he was awe struck as a kid with machinery. He asked if Bobby would like to climb on the tractor and Bobby said "I drive it!" He is so thrilled with our Christmas tree. He loved being with his cousins to cut down the tree and yell timber. Then when daddy put the tree up, put the lights on and added ornaments this is exactly how he looked. He has a cute personality!!

Special time with Daddy

A few weeks ago Sherman was working at his old station. We were invited (ok so I convinced him to let us come) to see Daddy at work. Bobby was so excited. He was able to slide down the fire pole with Daddy, ride on the fire truck and watch the big ladder go up in the air. He really had a great time and I enjoyed watching the two of them play. Here are a few pictures of our day with Daddy. I think the last one is so precious. He is saying his goodbyes to Daddy before we leave.

We were given this wonderful new chair for Bobby. Sherman met a guy named Mike a few years ago who works for another fire department. He and Sherman drove out to Louisiana and back just after Hurricane Katrina hit. They were able to get to know one another and have kept in contact somewhat since. He and his wife have three kids and have kindly passed some neat things along.

So a few weeks ago we were visiting our friends enjoying homemade pizza and some refreshing lemonade. One of our friends was being very playful (as always) with Bobby and was going to tap him on the nose with the spoon that was being used to mix the lemonade. Just before he taps Bobby on the nose the tiniest drop of lemonade landed on Bobby's tongue. Immediately Bobby says more, more and of course we all start laughing. Just last week Bobby and I visit my mom, brothers and Vanessa. I am standing in front of the fridge with the door open talking to my mom when Bobby reaches up a grabs, yes, this open can of pink lemonade and starts guzzling. He was drinking so much of it he started coughing but wouldn't stop drinking. It was so funny. After we stopped laughing Bobby started asking for more.

A dear friend of mine taught me how to make pizza at home. Thats right!! Here is a picture of a very delicious pizza. However, I must admit I will never make a pizza like my dear friend or her mom but I will keep trying. There is a little extra dough (sarcasm intended). I thought I would try and stuff the extra crust with mozzarella like the professionals do, I failed. It is not the prettiest pizza (is there such a thing) but it sure tasted great. Pepperoni, hot sausage, bell pepper, onion, sauce (Ragu, please) and lots of cheese. TA DA

Bobby has started to walk! He officially started walking on our anniversary. Everyday he is becoming more stable. He still claps for himself after her falls down. He is very proud of himself. The cute girl he is walking to is my brother Jesse's girlfriend, Vanessa and my Mom in the background.

Bobby loves to pull out the bottom drawer of the entertainment center and read books. He recently has discovered he can sit in the drawer. He is really resourceful and cute too.

We made these for a Baby Shower for a dear friend of ours. We alternated with Turkey and Ham so there would be some contrast. We also made a veggie spread that we put on the bread first then the meat and cheese. We used cookie cutters to cut the bread and cheese. Super delicious and cute too!

I am horrible with peer pressure

After many suggestions, lots of pressure, hints (some of which were not so subtle), I have succumbed. Here is my limitless attempt to capture and share our lives with beautiful pictures and short stories as each day gloriously unfolds before us. Thank you for your suggestions, pressure and hints.
